#2 Sign a card
CUPE will send you a union card to fill out. By signing this card you are joining CUPE, however your workplace does not have union representation yet.
#3 Sign up 40-50% of your coworkers
To initiate a union vote 40% of employees in a workplace need to fill out a card. We usually aim for 50%. Please spread the word to your co-workers. Find out how to get involved in the union drive here.
#4 Approved by Labour Board
Once you have enough cards signed an application is submitted to the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
#5 Vote
After the labour board approves the application all employees (not just card signers) can cast a vote on whether or not to join the union.
#6 Unionized
If more than 50% of voters choose to join the union, then you have officially joined CUPE and formed a union in your workplace! Time to negotiate for better working conditions.
